The Unique identification project (also referred to as Aadhar) was initially conceived by the Planning Commission as an initiative that would provide identification for each resident across the country and would be used primarily as the basis for efficient delivery of welfare services. It also acts as a tool for effective monitoring of various programs and schemes of the Government. KEY-POINTS/ISSUE: • Developed UID numbering scheme for issuing, collecting and managing national identification data. • Created key technical algorithms for error correction. • Strategic advisor on national deployment of UID.
